In a heartfelt session on August 5, 2024, the Spring Hill Board of Mayor and Alderman unanimously passed Resolution 24-182, honoring the life and legacy of Philip Anthony \"Phil\" Bennett, who passed away on July 24, 2024, at the age of 76 after a brief battle with cancer.
Phil Bennett was remembered as a cherished member of the Spring Hill community, having dedicated 37 years to the United States Postal Service before retiring in 2002. His service extended beyond his professional life; he was a veteran of the United States Air Force, including a tour in Vietnam. Bennett was also deeply involved in local organizations, serving as a charter member of the Spring Hill Library Board, a member of the Spring Hill Historic Commission Board, and an active participant in the Spring Hill Lions Club and American Legion Post No. 19.
His commitment to his faith was evident through his long-standing membership at Spring Hill Church of Christ, where he served as a deacon for 33 years and an elder for 12 years. Additionally, Bennett contributed to the community through his 24 years of service at Spring Hill Memorial Funeral Home, where he provided comfort to the bereaved.
The resolution highlighted Bennett's love for his family, his passion for outdoor activities such as fishing and camping, and his pride in his grandsons, Ben and Riley. The Board extended their deepest sympathies to his wife, Diane, daughter Dana Carroll, and the entire Bennett family.
Alderman Linville motioned for the resolution's approval, which was seconded by Alderman Murray, and the board expressed their gratitude to those who attended the meeting to honor Bennett's memory. The city has prepared a formal resolution bearing the city seal to present to the Bennett family, further commemorating Phil Bennett's significant contributions to both his family and the Spring Hill community.
