In a recent government meeting, significant discussions centered around community development and engagement in the LA East area, which is owned by the global district and includes Hannah Hall and Lakewood Hall. Plans are underway to transform this multi-acre site into a hub for housing, business, and recreational spaces, with a strong emphasis on involving the Asian and Hispanic communities in the planning process.
Commission members expressed their commitment to fostering a collaborative relationship with local organizations, particularly with the Gathering Place and Guthrie Green, to enhance event planning and community outreach. Cynthia Jasso, a key figure in the Elevate East initiative, is set to be the guest speaker at next month’s meeting, where she will provide insights into the development plans for the area.
Additionally, the meeting addressed the management of donations through the Tulsa Community Foundation, which will streamline sponsorship and grant writing efforts for the commission. Members were reminded of the importance of this structure as they seek funding for future projects.
The chair also announced plans to improve the commission's visibility at events through the distribution of official business cards and name badges, currently in production. There was a proposal for the commission to design and fund T-shirts, pending approval from the city’s graphics department.
The chair will be out of the country from September 4th to 18th but assured members of continued availability via email, despite the time zone differences. The meeting underscored a proactive approach to community involvement and resource management as the commission moves forward with its initiatives.
