In a recent government meeting, the community gathered to celebrate the swearing-in of Sergeant Gabe Kerstein, a veteran officer with 16 years of service. The event, marked by camaraderie and recognition of public service, highlighted Kerstein's extensive contributions to law enforcement, particularly his leadership in the Illinois State Police Cooperative Police Assistance Team (CPAT).
Police Chief commended Kerstein for his impressive track record, which includes conducting over 561 undercover operations, executing 191 search warrants, and making 433 arrests, alongside seizing 139 firearms across multiple jurisdictions. His dedication was further acknowledged when he received a letter of appreciation from the CPAT director for his initiative and leadership.
Kerstein, who holds a bachelor's degree in business administration from Elmhurst College, transitioned from a career in the mortgage industry to law enforcement, driven by a passion for police work. His colleagues and family were present to support him during the ceremony, underscoring the importance of community and teamwork in public service.
As he took the oath of office, Kerstein humorously noted the challenges of fitting into his formal uniform after years of undercover work, adding a light-hearted moment to the proceedings. The event not only celebrated Kerstein's achievements but also reinforced the community's commitment to supporting its law enforcement officers.
