Wimberley Council Approves Free Rides for Seniors

During a recent government meeting, local officials discussed community engagement initiatives and transportation services, highlighting the importance of collaboration and support for residents.

One of the key topics was the upcoming Halloween festivities in Wimberley. Local law enforcement expressed their commitment to participate in the celebrations, emphasizing their enjoyment in interacting with the community, particularly with children. Officers will extend their hours to ensure safety and support during the events, which include activities at Blue Hole Park and other locations.

Additionally, representatives from the Capital Area Rural Transportation Systems (CARTS) provided an update on their services. David Marsh, a CARTS representative, shared that the organization has expanded its offerings to provide free transportation for seniors to various destinations, a significant change from their previous service model that was limited to meal sites. This initiative has gained popularity, allowing seniors greater mobility and access to essential services.

Marsh also requested a nominal funding contribution of $1,000 from the city to support their operations, which was unanimously approved by the council. The funding will help sustain the transportation services that benefit the local community, particularly the senior population.
