Midway High School shines at regional education awards
During a recent government meeting, several notable achievements within the Midway Independent School District were recognized, highlighting the dedication of staff and the success of students.

Tim Kai Clark, an ESL Facilitator at Midway High School, received the Secondary Parent Engagement Leader of the Year award from Region 12 for his exceptional support of bilingual students and programs. This recognition was part of the Region 12 Bilingual ESL Support Awards ceremony.

The Heart of Texas Counseling Association honored two Midway counselors: Cara Fisher from South Boskey Elementary, named Outstanding Elementary Counselor, and Cindy Cates from Midway Middle School, recognized as Outstanding Middle School Counselor. Fisher humorously noted her absence from the ceremony due to giving birth earlier that day.

Additionally, four Midway counselors were named 2024 Region 12 Elite Counselors and finalists for the Region 12 Counselor of the Year award, including Renee Demery, Kim Belajan, and Lindsey Ostrom, all commended for their outstanding service.

David Wyrick, Child Nutrition Assistant Manager at Midway High School, received the Midway Extra Mile Award for his innovative work in creating a culinary program for students with special needs, providing them with hands-on training and real-world experience.

Midway High School also celebrated its ranking as the top public high school in the Waco area, according to US News and World Report, which evaluated nearly 25,000 schools nationwide. The school is recognized among the top 12% of high schools in the country and the top 11% in Texas.

The meeting also marked a farewell to Lori Sapp, who has served the district for 36 years, particularly in accountability and testing. Her contributions were acknowledged as she prepares for retirement.

Lastly, Jennifer Allison, the newly appointed principal of River Valley Middle School, was introduced to the board after returning from vacation, expressing her excitement to support the students and families of Midway ISD.

The meeting concluded with a celebration of the achievements of staff and students, reinforcing the district's commitment to excellence in education.
