The participation rate among applicants remains strong at 54%.
April's round of applications saw 12 submissions, with 11 approved and 7 awarded, totaling $79,851.47 from a requested $164,984.92. Notably, the participation rate for minority and women-owned businesses was 33%.
The meeting also addressed the Smart Start Business Development program, which offers $2,000 grants to businesses in operation for up to three years. Out of 75 applications received, 57 were approved, and 50 grants awarded, totaling $114,000. The participation rate for this program was exceptionally high at 95%, with a diverse representation of women and minority-owned businesses.
Additionally, the Smart Start Business Acceleration program, targeting businesses between three to seven years old, received 24 applications, with 8 approved and $32,960.56 awarded. The participation rate for this round was also 100%, showcasing a commitment to inclusivity.
Officials acknowledged the overwhelming demand for funding, indicating a need for further discussions on how to address the gap between requests and available resources. The meeting concluded without questions, but the positive trends in grant applications and awards signal a robust support system for local entrepreneurs.
