During a recent government meeting, community members from the Helene Mills Senior Center voiced their concerns regarding changes to art classes that have disrupted their programming. Wanda Chapman, a participant at the center, presented a petition highlighting the importance of instructor Nicole, whose classes have been postponed due to a reassignment to the Sandy Springs facility.
Chapman emphasized the positive impact Nicole has had on the seniors, stating that her teaching has transformed many participants into skilled artists. She described Nicole as attentive and supportive, noting that her approach fosters a welcoming environment for seniors, many of whom have been attending classes for years.
The petition reflects a broader dissatisfaction with the recent trend of moving instructors between facilities, which Chapman argued has been inconvenient for the Helene Mills community. The seniors expressed a strong desire for Nicole to remain at their center, underscoring the value they place on continuity in their educational experiences.
Reverend Sigford White, founder of Concerned Dads Inc., also addressed the assembly, indicating that he would further discuss community concerns. The meeting highlighted the importance of local programs for seniors and the need for stable staffing to ensure their continued engagement and development.
