In a heartfelt introduction at a recent community event, Tiffany Evans shared her personal journey of loss and resilience, highlighting the impactful role of Prince George's County Executive Angela Alsobrooks in her life. Evans recounted the tragic death of her eight-year-old son, Peyton John Evans, who was killed by a stray bullet while sitting at the dinner table in August 2021. This devastating event marked a turning point in her life, leading her to connect with Alsobrooks, who provided unwavering support during her time of grief.
Evans praised Alsobrooks for her compassionate leadership, recalling their first meeting at the Thomas G. Pullen Performing Arts School shortly after her son's death. In a gesture of remembrance, Alsobrooks sponsored over 25 laptops for the third-grade students at the school, which would have been PJ's class. This act of kindness exemplified her commitment to the community and youth education.
Together, Evans and Alsobrooks have participated in various panels addressing youth issues and gun violence prevention in Prince George's County. As a violence interrupter for Hope and Action, a program funded by Alsobrooks, Evans actively advocates for gun violence prevention, engaging with at-risk communities and encouraging youth to abandon firearms.
Evans expressed her gratitude for Alsobrooks' dedication to fighting for safer communities, emphasizing that their shared mission extends beyond Maryland, resonating with communities nationwide. Through their collaboration, both women embody a powerful message of resilience and advocacy against gun violence.
