The recent government meeting highlighted several key initiatives aimed at enhancing community engagement and infrastructure at the airport.
The Center of Equity and Excellence in Aviation recently launched its inaugural Den Academy, a three-day camp designed to introduce 7th to 12th graders to aviation careers. The program offers interactive learning experiences, covering various fields such as air traffic control, sustainability, and emergency management. A second session for younger students in grades 3 to 6 is scheduled for July 29-31, with a growing list of interested participants.
In addition to educational initiatives, the meeting provided updates on ongoing construction projects. The Great Hall construction is progressing well, with the west security area operational since February and the east security checkpoint nearing 50% completion, expected to open by the end of summer next year.
The airport also celebrated the arrival of six new energy-efficient train cars as part of an upgrade to the automated guideway train system. These lightweight aluminum cars, made from recycled materials, will significantly enhance passenger capacity and reduce wait times, accommodating an additional 850 passengers per hour. A total of 26 new train cars are set to be delivered by 2025.
Lastly, the airport will resume its annual \"Concerts on the Fly\" series from July 28 to September 1, providing an opportunity for community members to engage with airport operations and explore career opportunities.
These initiatives reflect a commitment to sustainability, community involvement, and improved passenger experience at the airport.
