In a recent government meeting, Dr. Jim Tidwell, Vice President of Population Health at Owensboro Health, presented an initiative aimed at improving healthcare access in the community through a newly launched mobile clinic unit. The project, which has been in development for over a year, seeks to address unmet social needs that often hinder individuals from receiving necessary health services, such as transportation issues.
The mobile clinic, which began operations in June, will be stationed at three consistent locations in Owensboro and Davis County: the Bolware Mission, the Senior Community Center, and New Life Church. This strategic placement aims to reach underserved areas lacking traditional healthcare facilities, providing basic health services directly to residents in their neighborhoods.
Dr. Tidwell emphasized the importance of making healthcare accessible, stating that the mobile unit serves as an entry point into the broader Owensboro Health system. Patients can walk in without an appointment and receive care, including referrals to primary care physicians or specialists as needed. A consistent healthcare provider will be available at the mobile unit starting next month, allowing individuals to establish ongoing care.
The initiative reflects Owensboro Health's commitment to enhancing community health and ensuring that all residents have the opportunity to access essential healthcare services. The team is actively working to raise awareness about the mobile clinic's availability and its potential to bridge gaps in healthcare access for those who may otherwise go without.
