In a recent government meeting, officials outlined key upcoming events related to local elections and provided updates on development projects within the county.
The meeting highlighted the schedule for candidate forums and a meet-and-greet event for the contested county commission and sheriff's seats. The meet-and-greet is set for Thursday, July 11, at 6 PM at the Clarion, sponsored by the Garden City Area Chamber of Commerce. Following this, candidate forums will take place on July 16 for county commission candidates and July 18 for sheriff candidates, both at 6 PM in the Finney County Administration Building.
Additionally, officials reminded the public that July 16 is the deadline for voter registration and address updates. Early voting will commence on July 22, with options available on weekdays from 9 AM to 4 PM at the election office, along with an evening voting session on July 30 and a Saturday voting opportunity on August 3.
In development updates, Mackenzie Phillips, the development administrative coordinator, presented new aerial imagery of ongoing projects, including Country Acres and Randall Estates. She confirmed that the county will assume maintenance responsibilities for the roads in these developments after a one to two-year period, depending on the project.
The meeting concluded with a call to action for community members to register and participate in the upcoming elections, emphasizing the importance of civic engagement.
