City plans major expansion for popular waterfront restaurant

The project aims to enhance the restaurant's kitchen facilities while improving the aesthetic appeal of the east facade, which currently displays visible mechanical equipment.

The proposed expansion includes relocating existing mechanical systems to the roof of the new kitchen area, which will be concealed by parapet walls. This design choice aligns with the district's architectural standards, which predominantly feature brick and metal materials. The board emphasized that their review focused solely on the visual aspects of the expansion, as the lease amendment necessary for the project is being processed separately and will require city council approval.

The restaurant's owners highlighted the need for the expansion due to the current kitchen's inadequate size, which has forced them to transport inventory from off-site locations. The expansion is expected to improve operational efficiency and maintain the quality of service at this popular waterfront destination.

Board members expressed their appreciation for the thoughtful design, noting that the addition would not detract from the public's enjoyment of the nearby Palafox Pier.
