The pharmacy access program serves over 500 patients monthly, providing nearly 1,400 prescriptions at no cost to those in financial need. Notable success stories included a single mother who accessed her Strattera prescription for just $64 instead of the $300-$500 monthly cost, and a 68-year-old woman recovering from opioid use disorder who received copay assistance for her Suboxone.

Representatives from Memorial Healthcare and McLaren Healthcare Corporation also emphasized the program's impact on rural and urban communities alike. Memorial Healthcare, serving a significant number of Medicaid and Medicare patients, relies on 340B savings to maintain access to vital services, including oncology and behavioral health care. The hospital's director of pharmacy noted that these savings allow them to provide transportation and medication assistance to patients with mobility issues.

McLaren Healthcare detailed its initiatives, including a free drug program aimed at combating the opioid crisis by distributing Narcan to patients at discharge. The organization reported that in 2023 alone, over 23 boxes of Narcan were provided through emergency departments, funded by 340B savings. Additionally, McLaren's oncology services have benefited from the program, with over 1,200 oncology prescriptions filled, amounting to $1.2 million in funding for cancer treatments.

Despite the program's successes, representatives expressed concerns over ongoing challenges, including reduced savings due to restrictions imposed by pharmaceutical manufacturers. The meeting underscored the importance of the 340B program in ensuring access to affordable healthcare for vulnerable populations, as stakeholders called for continued support and advocacy for the program's preservation.
