In a recent city council meeting, several significant resolutions were passed aimed at enhancing community services and infrastructure in Aurora.
One of the key highlights was the approval of a resolution to accept a $1 million grant from the USDA Forest Service. This funding, which requires no matching funds, is designated for improving Aurora's urban forest in areas approved by the USDA over the next five years.
The council also authorized the purchase of video conferencing hardware and services from Burwood Group for a total of $66,640.53, aimed at enhancing communication capabilities within the city.
In a move to bolster local shelters, two resolutions were approved to apply for funding from the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity. The first application seeks up to $1 million for the reconstruction of the family shelter at Hesett House, while the second aims for $2 million to construct a new shelter facility at Mutual Ground on Oak Avenue.
Additionally, the Broadway Avenue Sewer Separation Project was awarded to Berger Contractors for $1,094,089.25, addressing critical infrastructure needs in Ward 2. The council also approved the purchase of bulk rock salt for winter maintenance at a rate of $73.90 per ton.
