During a recent government meeting, officials discussed two applications related to the public water fund, specifically focusing on a project aimed at improving water access in the area. The project, part of the Health Care Initiative (HCI) for water, involves the construction of new water lines along Rakeshaw Road, an existing county road.
Lori, a representative involved in the project, provided a brief overview, highlighting the challenges faced in installation due to limited shoulder ditch areas and multiple drainage crossings. The current estimate for the project is based on the installation of 1,000 linear feet of six-inch water lines.
Cleveland Utilities, tasked with assessing the potential customer base for the new lines, indicated uncertainty regarding the number of future customers, noting the presence of multiple dwellings on a large tract of land. However, the property owner confirmed via email that plans are in place for a future home on the property, which would facilitate water access for additional homes in the area. The owner emphasized that no construction has occurred on the land due to the lack of water access.
The project is currently under review by the Southeast Tennessee Development District. If approved, the full county commission has pledged $20,000 towards the project, with an additional 50% matching commitment from a local citizen. The total funding required from the public water fund would amount to $22,500, marking the first use of these funds in the current fiscal year. The public water fund currently holds a balance of $34,778.
