Residents of the 12 Stones community voiced serious concerns during a recent government meeting regarding traffic congestion and flooding risks associated with proposed developments in the area. Liz Hall, a long-time resident of Willis Branch Road, highlighted the worsening traffic conditions on Caldwell and the impact on access to Interstate 65, particularly during peak hours. She noted that existing congestion often adds significant delays for residents trying to exit their neighborhood, raising safety concerns as traffic volumes increase.
Hall also expressed apprehension about potential flooding, referencing past incidents where heavy rains had caused significant water accumulation in the area. She warned that rerouting drainage could exacerbate flooding issues, leading to property damage and increased insurance costs for homeowners. Hall pointed out the historical flooding that had previously destroyed homes in the vicinity, emphasizing that new developments could place future residents at risk.
Another resident, Teresa Moran, shared her own experiences with water problems in her home, which she purchased in 2018. She described how her property had suffered from severe water issues, necessitating costly repairs after discovering that the flooding was a result of changes in the land following the 2010 flood. Moran's testimony underscored the potential for additional water runoff from new developments to further complicate existing drainage problems.
Both residents urged local officials to reconsider the implications of new construction in the area, citing safety and environmental concerns. Their testimonies reflect a growing unease among community members about the balance between development and the preservation of their neighborhood's safety and quality of life.
