In a recent government meeting, the Sudbury Wetlands Protection Commission addressed several applications concerning construction and landscaping projects within designated wetland buffer zones.
The first item on the agenda involved a notice of intent for a property at 104 Plympton Road, where applicants Andrew and Emily Broulee proposed to construct a swimming pool, fencing, a driveway, and a walkway, as well as reconstruct a deck and relocate a shed. The commission moved to close the hearing and issue an order of conditions after confirming that the applicants had no further comments on the draft conditions.
Next, a request for determination of applicability for 24 Goodnow Road was continued until August 26, 2024, without discussion. This application involves work within the 100-foot buffer zone as per the Wetlands Protection Act.
The commission also reviewed a continued application for a new school building at 10502 Concord Road, which has been postponed until September 23, 2024. Similarly, a request for an addition to a single-family home at 143 Union Avenue was continued until August 26, 2024.
A notable discussion arose regarding a new application from Harry Hoffman for the removal of Japanese knotweed at 303 Boston Post Road. Hoffman detailed his plan to eradicate the invasive species without pesticides, opting instead for manual removal methods. The commission expressed support for the project, recommending a negative determination with conditions to ensure minimal disturbance and the replanting of native species post-removal.
Lastly, the commission heard from Kristen and Pat O'Brien regarding their proposal to replace a rotting deck and construct a patio at 41 Possum Lane. The O'Briens plan to use pervious materials for the patio to mitigate runoff and will implement erosion controls during construction. The commission showed a favorable disposition towards this application, emphasizing the importance of maintaining the integrity of the wetland buffer.
Overall, the meeting highlighted the commission's commitment to balancing development needs with environmental protection, ensuring that all projects comply with local regulations aimed at preserving wetland ecosystems.
