One resident shared that their property taxes have surged significantly, with their assessed home value increasing by 67% since 2015. This has led to a situation where some individuals are spending a substantial portion of their income on property taxes, making it difficult to afford basic necessities. In response to these concerns, the city announced a pilot property tax rebate program aimed at seniors aged 65 and older and disabled veterans. The program, which has a cap on appraised home values and income limits, is expected to provide rebates ranging from $550 to $924, with a total city payout of $100,000. However, questions arose regarding the eligibility criteria and how participants would be selected, as the program is not first-come, first-served.
