During a recent city council meeting, Julie Botello Tallarico expressed her desire for reappointment to the Boca Raton Preservation Board, where she has served for four years. Tallarico highlighted the board's progress in preserving the city's historic neighborhoods, particularly Pearl City and Old Floresta. The council acknowledged her interest and indicated that further interviews for board positions would take place the following night.
The meeting also featured a presentation on preparations for Boca Raton's upcoming centennial celebration, scheduled for May 2025. Anne Marie Connolly and Amy D'Onorchio, key members of the centennial planning team, provided updates on the initiative. They revealed that an external marketing consultant, Merritt Mile, has been selected to assist with the celebration's planning and implementation. The initial agreement with the firm is set for 18 months, beginning July 1, 2024.
Significant milestones were discussed, including the unveiling of the centennial logo on June 24, 2024, which marks the anniversary of the town's incorporation. The city will also be commemorated by the Boca Raton Historical Society on June 22, 2024. The centennial celebration will kick off in January 2025, featuring a dedicated website that will serve as a hub for community stories, events, and sponsorship opportunities.
Additional projects related to the centennial include marketing materials, community events, and public art installations, with a major celebration planned for the weekend of May 24-25, 2025. The council expressed enthusiasm for the upcoming events and the opportunity to engage the community in celebrating Boca Raton's rich history.
