The Garden City City Council held a meeting to celebrate Villa Bakery's recent recognition as the best bakery in Metro Detroit, as voted by Channel 4. Mayor and council members congratulated Candy, the bakery owner, on this achievement and her 60 years of service to the community. As a token of appreciation, the council presented her with a Garden City sweatshirt and invited her staff to join for a group photo.
In addition to the bakery celebration, the council discussed the upcoming Chili Cook-Off and Community Festival scheduled for Saturday, September 7th. The event will feature a variety of activities, including an open house at City Hall, a car and motorcycle show, and children's activities such as a \"Touch a Truck\" exhibit. The festival will also include live music, a beer tent, and a cornhole tournament, with the chili judging set to begin at 11:30 AM. Notably, Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson will serve as a special judge for the chili competition and will bring a mobile office to assist residents with various services, including ID renewals and title transfers.
The council expressed gratitude to local sponsors supporting the event and encouraged community members to volunteer or attend the festival for a day of fun and engagement in Garden City.
