On June 1, 2022, a tragic shooting incident in Oak Park led to the death of local businessman Daniel Hutchinson, owner of Hutchinson's Jewelry. Officers responded to reports of a shooting at Greenfield Road and Miller Street, where they found Hutchinson critically injured inside a vehicle. Despite immediate CPR efforts and transport to a local hospital, he succumbed to his injuries.
Witnesses reported that the suspect, identified as Roy Larry, fled the scene on a bicycle. A bystander attempted to prevent Larry's escape by striking him with a vehicle, allowing police to apprehend him shortly after. Larry was found injured and denied involvement in the shooting, but was identified by witnesses. Video surveillance from Hutchinson's business captured the incident.
Following a thorough investigation led by Detective Sergeant Dwayne Green, it was revealed that the shooting was part of a murder-for-hire plot orchestrated by Hutchinson's attorney, Marco Bizbikas. Bizbikas had allegedly manipulated his position to gain financially from Hutchinson's will and trust. Alongside Larry, three other defendants were implicated in the conspiracy.
All five individuals were charged by the Oakland County prosecutor's office. Larry and Bizbikas were found guilty of first-degree murder and sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole, while the other three accepted plea agreements. The swift response from law enforcement and the extensive investigation were commended, highlighting the collaborative efforts that led to the resolution of this case.
