The hearing was designed to gather public and agency comments on the proposed community transportation program grant application. This program is intended to improve transportation options and services within the county, coordinating existing transportation programs to better meet community needs.

The fiscal year 2026 Community Transportation Program grant application, which is due to NCDOT by October 4, 2024, includes a total funding request of $817,590. This amount comprises $295,990 for administrative funding, requiring a 15% local match, and $521,600 for capital funding with a 10% local match. The local share of $96,559 will be covered by transit revenue.

In addition to transportation discussions, the board approved a special use permit for a mining sandpit operation on a 33-acre site. The permit was granted after a thorough review process, confirming that the proposed use aligns with zoning regulations and will not negatively impact the surrounding community. The board unanimously approved each element of the permit application, ensuring that adequate utilities and access roads are in place.
