During a recent government meeting, officials discussed significant changes to local traffic patterns due to ongoing construction projects, particularly affecting access to the popular Vanguard cheese shop. Board Chair Fischer Workman confirmed that customers will still be able to purchase cheese throughout the construction phases, despite anticipated disruptions.

The construction will necessitate the relocation of a monument and adjustments to road access. Initially, access to Vanguard will be rerouted from the north via Highway 212, with drivers needing to navigate south of Cologne and then west before heading north across the rail tracks. This change is expected to complicate access further in the fall of 2026, when the only route will revert to the north from Highway 212.

Officials emphasized the importance of clear communication with the public and local businesses about these changes. Meetings with Vanguard staff have already taken place to ensure that necessary information is disseminated to shippers, truck drivers, and the general public.

The construction timeline indicates that substantial completion is anticipated by late October 2026. Initial work will focus on the area south of Vanguard, with significant activity expected in the summer of 2025 as paving begins on new segments of the highway. The project aims to enhance traffic flow, although officials acknowledged the challenges posed by the existing drainage systems that will require relocation.
