Students shine as archers claim national championships

In a recent government meeting, local archery teams and individual competitors were celebrated for their outstanding achievements in national competitions. Cossey, a standout team, outscored 147 other teams to clinch the third challenge, prompting congratulations from officials who expressed pride in the team's accomplishments.

The meeting highlighted the success of individual archers, particularly Gunner Couch from Grand Bay Middle School, who achieved a remarkable perfect score of 300, ranking first among 7,574 competitors. Mackenzie Thompson from Dawes Intermediate also received accolades for her impressive performance, ranking 17th out of 6,920 archers in the tournament, scoring 292 points in her events.

As these young athletes prepare for an upcoming world competition, the meeting also acknowledged the growth of the archery program, which has expanded to include 82 schools across various educational levels. Officials emphasized the importance of community support and parental involvement in fostering these achievements.

The event concluded with a call for continued excellence, with hopes that these talented archers will one day represent their community on an Olympic stage.
