The Village of Lake Bluff is set to host its third annual Birthday Bash on September 21, 2024, following the approval of a resolution granting a fireworks permit during a recent government meeting. The event will take place at Blair Park and the Lake Bluff Golf Course, featuring a public fireworks display, a hallmark of the celebration.
The village board's approval is necessary due to municipal code restrictions on fireworks, which generally prohibit their use except on Washington Avenue. However, with the issuance of a permit by the Board of Trustees, the village can allow fireworks for public exhibitions. This year, the park district, which has historically submitted the fireworks permit, has recommended that the village take on this responsibility, along with an application to utilize park district property for the event.
This shift in responsibility comes as the park district prepares to celebrate its 100th anniversary next year, indicating that the village may have a diminished role in future events. Village officials have coordinated event planning and risk management with their risk management agency to ensure safety during the celebration. The fire chief has expressed comfort with the plans, paving the way for a festive and safe community gathering.
