In a recent city council meeting, members unanimously approved the purchase of a portable bypass pump for the Public Works department, allowing the city manager to execute necessary change orders. This decision marks a proactive step in enhancing the city's infrastructure capabilities.
The meeting also featured an update from Park and Recreation Director, Mr. Pruitt, regarding the Veteran Memorial Park. He reported on the condition of a broken globe at Halton Road Park, which has been deteriorating for some time. Following extensive discussions and research, a new design has been finalized in collaboration with sculptor Darren Wright. The proposed replacement will feature a stainless steel globe with bronze landmasses and a two-foot wide bronze eagle atop a four-point star base. This design aims to honor the Richards family, who originally funded the globe, and will be financed through the park dedication fund, ensuring no additional costs to taxpayers.
Mr. Pruitt expressed confidence in the durability of the new installation, addressing concerns about potential vandalism and maintenance. The goal is to unveil the new memorial during the Veterans Day ceremony in November, coinciding with a special guest speaker, Cathy Strong, who plans to commemorate her inspiring story at the event.
The council's discussions reflect a commitment to maintaining and enhancing community spaces while honoring local veterans, showcasing the city’s dedication to both infrastructure and cultural heritage.
