In a recent government meeting, officials discussed an exciting development project aimed at revitalizing a blighted area in downtown Kyle. The proposal centers around a new barbecue restaurant, spearheaded by local entrepreneur Mike Hernandez, who plans to transform a former tire shop located on Old Highway 81 into a vibrant dining destination.

The property, currently zoned for construction manufacturing, will undergo a rezoning to CBD 2, which is more suitable for downtown use. This change is expected to catalyze further redevelopment in the area, enhancing both the west and east sides of downtown Kyle. Hernandez's vision includes a 2,000 square foot restaurant featuring a playscape for children, an outdoor music stage, and a walk-up bar, all designed to create a unique dining experience that attracts visitors from around the world.

To support this initiative, city officials proposed a one-time grant of $300,000 for necessary utility upgrades, contingent upon the completion of specific benchmarks. Additionally, a three-year restaurant incentive program was suggested, offering 50% rebates on property and sales taxes to further encourage the establishment's success.

Council members expressed enthusiasm for the project, highlighting the importance of supporting small businesses and ensuring accessibility for all patrons, including veterans. Hernandez confirmed that plans for ADA-compliant parking and restroom facilities are in development, addressing community concerns about accessibility.
