City outlines ambitious plans for major infrastructure upgrades

During a recent government meeting, officials provided updates on various ongoing projects and initiatives within the community. The expansion of the Headland parking lot is on track for completion by the end of August, while renovations at Bay Bluffs are progressing, including completed painting in the Apple Blossom wing and ordered furniture. Plans are underway to upgrade shower facilities and replace windows at the site.

The Department of Public Works (DPW) is accelerating the replacement of a compactor by a year, with contractors currently addressing roof repairs across several buildings. HVAC improvements at Lakeview have been initiated following the approval of agreements in the previous meeting, alongside new flooring installations.

At Boston Airport, an energy program with Consumers Energy has commenced, aimed at reducing operational costs. However, officials are also addressing hard water issues at the airport, collaborating with Mead and Hunt to develop a corrosion control plan.

Plans for parking lot renovations at the main building have been postponed until spring due to time constraints, with bidding expected in the spring and major renovations planned for the fall.

In a related discussion, concerns were raised regarding restroom conditions at Pelson Airport, following complaints from a local family. The issue was promptly addressed, and officials confirmed that all restrooms were in good condition shortly after the complaint.

The meeting also highlighted upcoming millage votes, including the EMS and county millages, with officials clarifying that the millage rate has remained unchanged for the past 20 years, despite some public confusion regarding its renewal status.

Lastly, an agreement for curbside recycling with Petoskey was presented, mirroring existing agreements with other municipalities, pending final council approval.
