The Trenton South Ward Neighborhood Association is set to host a free community barbecue on May 25 at their garden located at 471 Lamberton Street, running from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM. The event aims to foster community spirit, with a strict policy against alcoholic beverages to ensure a family-friendly atmosphere. Following this, on June 8, the association will organize a painting event in the same garden.
During a recent council meeting, Councilwoman Williams addressed the community, expressing gratitude for citizen participation and highlighting the importance of public engagement, especially as warmer weather approaches. She also spoke about a tragic incident at Kingsbury Towers where a young man lost his life and another was injured due to gun violence. Williams emphasized the ongoing efforts to enhance security in public housing areas, particularly in light of this incident, which has left a lasting impact on the community.
In addition, the councilwoman voiced her support for a resolution allocating $400,000 for the Locust Hole Cemetery and African American Museum project. She underscored the significance of this initiative in honoring African Americans who served in the Civil War and ensuring that their contributions are recognized and remembered.
Looking ahead, Williams invited the public to a Memorial Day remembrance ceremony at Locust Hill Cemetery, scheduled for Saturday at 11:00 AM, in partnership with the Kiwanis Club. She encouraged community members to attend and pay tribute to those who have served.
Lastly, the Northward Community Policing Advisory Committee (CPAC) meeting has been rescheduled to June 12 to avoid conflicting with the Juneteenth holiday. The meeting will take place at Gallilee Baptist Church, located at 440 Martin Luther King Boulevard.
