During a recent government meeting, officials discussed the upcoming renovation of a trail at Waveney Park, specifically the section that runs along Lapham Road to the Merritt Parkway. The project aims to refurbish a stretch of trail that has been in disrepair and does not meet the preferred surface standards used in other areas of the park.
The bidding process for the renovation attracted four responsible bids, with Sound Construction emerging as the lowest bidder at $56,100. The company has a history of working on local projects and is expected to deliver quality results. To account for potential unforeseen issues, such as unstable soils during the renovation, a contingency of $8,415 was added, bringing the total project cost to $64,515. Funding for the project is currently available.
The trail will feature a natural stone surface, specifically a combination of 3/8 stone and p stone, which has been successfully used in other trails within Waveney Park. This new surface is designed to provide a more comfortable walking experience compared to the larger, crushed stone previously used.
Officials noted that the trail will maintain an eight-foot width, allowing for two people to walk side by side comfortably. While two trees were removed due to their poor condition, no additional trees will be cut down for the project. Concerns about drainage in the area were acknowledged, with officials indicating that water flow issues exist but did not elaborate on specific solutions.
The renovation is expected to enhance the accessibility and overall experience of the trail for park visitors.
