In a recent government meeting, officials reported a series of fire incidents that have kept local emergency services busy throughout the month. On the 12th, responders dealt with multiple emergencies, including a vehicle fire that resulted in total loss and a tree fire on Fiddlequick. The following day, a structure fire was reported in Hot Springs, alongside a motor vehicle accident on Highway 18.
The fire activity continued with a grass and timber fire in Minnecata Valley on the 17th and 19th, as well as a hand grass fire east of Laurel. On the 20th, another grass fire was reported near Moss Agate Road, and on the 24th, electrical issues arose when a power line dropped from a house, causing significant disruptions.
The 26th was particularly active, with multiple incidents including a brush fire on 385 North and additional grass fires south of Maitland Road. A smoke and fire call was also received from the south side of the bypass in Hot Springs.
On the 27th, a tree fire occurred on East Cascade Mountain Road, and a lightning strike ignited a fire in Minnecata Valley, which burned approximately 74.5 acres. Firefighting efforts included helicopters, seat planes, and dozers. The Payne Fire, located near the Brown Top Fire, was contained at 1.6 acres. The month concluded with a grass fire on View Road on the 29th.
Officials emphasized the ongoing challenges posed by these incidents, highlighting the need for continued vigilance and preparedness in the face of increasing fire activity in the region.
