In a recent government meeting, officials addressed critical updates regarding school operations and public transportation in Jacksonville in light of impending weather conditions.
Dr. Krisner confirmed that schools will not be open for students tomorrow, marking the first day for employees to return for preplanning. An announcement regarding remote work options will be made later today, in coordination with city officials.
Chris Geraci, Chief Safety and Security Officer for the Jacksonville Transportation Authority (JTA), provided an update on transit operations, stating that services will continue as usual until safety concerns arise. The JTA is prepared for potential evacuations and has activated its Incident Management Team. The Saint Johns River Ferry is currently following directives from the US Coast Guard and has a contingency plan in place for relocation if necessary.
Geraci also announced that JTA will offer free rides to shelters once they open this afternoon, utilizing normal bus routes that service these locations. In the event of evacuations, four designated pickup points have been established, which will only be activated if necessary.
The meeting concluded with a reminder for the next council briefing scheduled for tomorrow morning at 10 AM, which will include a call-in opportunity for further updates.
