In addition to the rezoning discussion, the meeting included a presentation on safety improvements for 49th Street, identified as a high-injury corridor in Pinellas County. The study aims to enhance safety along the roadway, which has seen a significant number of serious and fatal collisions. The initiative is a collaborative effort between St. Petersburg, Gulfport, and Fort Pinellas, with funding support from the city.
