Residents of a West Jordan subdivision are raising urgent concerns about traffic safety following the development of a new nearby subdivision. During a recent government meeting, a local business owner and long-time resident detailed the escalating issues on Meadowlark Lane, which has transformed into a busy thoroughfare since the new homes were built.
The resident, who has lived in the area since 1985, expressed frustration over the increased speed of vehicles passing through the neighborhood, particularly as the road serves as a primary exit for the new subdivision. With 20 homes situated along a long, straight stretch of road, the resident highlighted the dangers posed to children and pets, noting that speeding has become a significant problem.
Despite previous measures taken by the city, such as the installation of speed radar signs, the resident reported that these solutions have proven ineffective, as vehicles often exceed safe speeds without being registered by the signs. The resident emphasized the need for more robust traffic calming measures, similar to those implemented in other nearby areas, which have speed bumps to slow down traffic.
The community's concerns are compounded by recent incidents involving pets being struck by vehicles, underscoring the urgent need for action to enhance safety for both children and animals in the neighborhood. The resident called for increased support from local authorities to address these pressing issues and ensure the well-being of the community.
