Officer Christopher Allen was honored as Citizen of the Month during a recent Las Vegas City Council meeting, recognizing his heroic actions on June 20. After a long day at work, Officer Allen, a newly appointed field training officer with the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, noticed a driver traveling the wrong way on the 215 freeway. Instead of heading home to his family, he followed the erratic driver and alerted 911 dispatch.
His quick thinking proved crucial when the driver collided head-on with another vehicle, resulting in a fiery crash. Without hesitation, Officer Allen jumped from his car and rushed into the burning wreckage to rescue victims, demonstrating remarkable bravery and selflessness.
During the meeting, Councilman Knudsen praised Officer Allen's commitment to public service, highlighting his exemplary leadership and dedication to the community over his eight years with the police department. Lieutenant Matt Arnold also spoke highly of Allen, emphasizing his strong work ethic and community-first mentality.
In recognition of his actions, the city proclaimed August 7, 2024, as Officer Christopher Allen Day. A plaque will be displayed on Main Street for the month, celebrating his heroism and service. Officer Allen expressed gratitude for the honor, reflecting on the unpredictability of life and the importance of being prepared to help others in need.
