During a recent government meeting, Matt Hanger, owner of the Netford Apartment Complex, raised concerns about the potential loss of seven valuable parking spots outside his property on 18th Street. Hanger, whose family has owned the building since 1919 and is currently restoring it, emphasized the importance of these spots for both residents and visitors.
In response, city officials clarified that they are in the early stages of establishing a framework for a potential parking district. They assured Hanger that if the governing body decides to move forward, there will be extensive outreach to local businesses to discuss parking regulations, including options for metered and time-limited parking.
Council member Mister Layborn echoed Hanger's sentiments, highlighting the need to accommodate residents in the area, which includes 37 apartment units across a half block. Layborn stressed the importance of ensuring that downtown living is supported by adequate parking solutions.
The meeting concluded with a recommendation from the public service committee to approve the proposed measures, signaling a commitment to addressing the parking needs of the community as development continues.
