During the recent Edinburgh City Council meeting, public comments highlighted community initiatives and ongoing support for residents in need.
Tom Reina, assistant city manager, addressed the ongoing distribution of sandbags due to recent weather conditions. He confirmed that residents can obtain up to six sandbags, while businesses are eligible for eight, at two designated locations: the City Service Center and a new self-service site at Eddyberg Municipal Park. Residents are required to present proof of residency to receive the sandbags, and the city will continue this service as long as supplies last.
Ronnie Lara, executive director of the Edinburgh Chamber and Convention and Visitors Bureau, invited the community to the 18th annual Texas Cookham High Stakes event scheduled for July 6 at Ebony Hills Golf Club. The event promises a day filled with championship barbecue, live entertainment, and family-friendly activities, culminating in a fireworks show. Lara emphasized that the event is free to the public, thanks to partnerships with local businesses and the city.
Lastly, Obed Montoya expressed his support for community engagement and the upcoming elections, urging citizens to participate actively. He also called for a celebration in 2024 to commemorate the city's achievements, despite some criticism regarding local festivities.
The meeting underscored the city's commitment to community welfare and engagement, with officials encouraging residents to take advantage of available resources and participate in upcoming events.
