In a recent government meeting, the accomplishments and contributions of Missus Garrison, a dedicated educator in the South Plainfield School District, were highlighted. With a background in computer science from Rutgers University and a master's degree in mathematics from Fairleigh Dickinson University, Garrison transitioned from a successful career as a computer programmer at IBM to teaching.
After taking time off to raise her three daughters, Garrison returned to her passion for mathematics, serving as an adjunct professor and tutor. Her journey in education began in 2002 when she joined the South Plainfield School District as an alternate group math teacher. During her tenure, she made significant strides in the classroom, becoming the first teacher to implement a smart board and introducing live data student response systems using iClickers.
In 2016, Garrison was promoted to director of curriculum, where she focused on enhancing data-driven instruction across the district. She played a pivotal role in expanding the district's benchmarking and assessment tools and has effectively managed the Title 1 grant, overseeing the development of student and family programming.
Garrison's commitment to education and innovation has left a lasting impact on the South Plainfield School District, showcasing her dedication to fostering a rich learning environment for students.
