Residents demand accountability for neglected stormwater management

During a recent Public Works and Buildings Committee meeting, community member Ray Weymond addressed concerns regarding the maintenance of stormwater management systems in the Ida Circle and Bovey Lane subdivision. Weymond expressed gratitude towards the committee for considering residents' perspectives and highlighted the ongoing issues with the detention ponds, which have reportedly seen no maintenance since their installation nearly five years ago.

Weymond emphasized that J and L Terra Holdings, the developer responsible for the ponds, has not fulfilled its obligations as outlined in a May 2018 notice of decision and a revised homeowners association agreement from May 2024. He urged the committee to ensure that the developer is held accountable for necessary inspections and maintenance until the city accepts the road, after which homeowners would take over responsibility.

The resident pointed out that invasive species, such as Japanese knotweed and sumac, could proliferate if not addressed promptly, stressing the importance of preventative maintenance. He criticized statements made by committee member Mister Norris, suggesting that they downplayed the urgency of the situation and implied that residents' requests for maintenance could be endless. Weymond clarified that the community is simply asking for the required maintenance to be conducted, rather than ongoing demands.

The meeting underscored the need for accountability from developers and the importance of maintaining infrastructure to prevent future issues, reflecting a broader concern among residents about the management of local resources.
