Alonzo, a standout student at WOK, has made remarkable strides in athletics and academics, particularly through his participation in the New Jersey Special Olympics. Competing with the Mighty Ducks team representing Union and Middlesex County, Alonzo showcased his talents in various sports, including swimming, track and field, soccer, and bowling.
On April 8, 2024, Alonzo earned a bronze medal in the bowling finals, marking a significant achievement in his athletic journey. The day prior, he excelled in swimming, clinching a gold medal in the 25-meter backstroke with an impressive time of 16 minutes and 59 seconds. His success continued as he participated in a 4x25 relay, where his team also secured a gold medal with a time of 1 minute and 22 seconds. Additionally, Alonzo triumphed in the 100-meter freestyle, once again taking home a gold medal. His dedication and performance earned him a qualification for the New Jersey State Summer Games.
Beyond swimming, Alonzo is actively involved in soccer, where he participated in the West Orange Division during both the spring and fall seasons. Last year, his soccer team achieved a commendable 2nd place finish. In addition to his athletic pursuits, Alonzo is a member of the school chorus and drum line, where he received the top wildcard award for his participation. He is also skilled in playing the piano, snare drum, and solo phone.
Alonzo's achievements highlight not only his athletic prowess but also his commitment to academics and the arts, making him a well-rounded student as he approaches the end of the school year.
