Broward County Property Appraiser Marty Kerr delivered an optimistic report on property values during a recent Tamarac city meeting, highlighting a significant increase in both residential and commercial property values. Kerr noted that the total value of properties in Tamarac has surged from approximately $10.22 billion last year to around $11.2 billion this year, marking a 9.27% increase. The taxable value also rose by 11.6%, reaching about $5.88 billion, which is higher than the county average.
Kerr emphasized the importance of accurate property assessments, stating that the values set by his office directly influence property tax amounts. He encouraged residents to review their recent Truth in Millage (TRIM) notices, which detail property values and available tax exemptions, urging them to contact his office by September 18 if they have concerns.
The property appraiser also discussed the various tax-saving exemptions available to Tamarac residents, particularly the homestead exemption, which can significantly reduce property tax liabilities. He highlighted that new residents moving into Tamarac are contributing to the rising property values, with many paying top dollar for homes.
Additionally, Kerr addressed the issue of title fraud, a growing concern in South Florida, and reiterated his office's commitment to protecting residents from such crimes. He praised the collaboration between his office and Tamarac's staff, noting their efficiency in processing permits and facilitating accurate property assessments.
Overall, the meeting underscored the positive trend in Tamarac's real estate market and the proactive measures being taken to ensure fair property taxation and safeguard residents against fraud.
