In a recent meeting of the Historic Preservation Commission, several significant projects were discussed, highlighting ongoing renovations and restorations within the community.
The commission reviewed multiple Certificate of Appropriateness (CA) applications, including CA 2411 for a residential fence at 306 Austin, and CA 2437 for the removal and replacement of the asphalt shingle roof at 331 East College Street, located in the College Street Historic District. Another notable project, CA 2438, involves roof replacement for the historic Keeling House at 529 East Worth Street.
Additionally, CA 2439 pertains to the Kershaw family's property at 324 Roof Street, which will see the installation of new wood doors. Teatro Bistro received approval for a new hanging sign under CA 2440, while CA 2442 involves roofing work at 521 East Worth Street.
The meeting also featured a public hearing regarding CA 24-32, which concerns the historic DE Box house, built in 1921. The new owner, Chris Sanchez, has been collaborating with the commission for nearly a year to renovate the property. Staff recommended approval for the renovation, which includes a new 750-square-foot addition and a variance to combine existing structures for enhanced storage. The proposal also includes a new roofline for the garage, subject to the approval of a plat and a separate certificate of appropriateness for exterior materials.
These discussions reflect the commission's commitment to preserving the historical integrity of the community while accommodating modern needs.
