Garland's Downtown Square and Streetscapes project has garnered significant recognition, winning the Dallas Business Journal's Best Real Estate Deals Award in the Community Impact category. Competing against 55 finalists, the project involved a comprehensive redesign of over 60,000 square feet, utilizing 45 tons of structural steel, 5 tons of concrete, and 650 tons of stone.
The redevelopment introduced new amenities, including 1,300 square feet of shade structures, 290 light fixtures, and extensive landscaping featuring 68 new trees and over 5,000 flowers and plants. The square now boasts a sweeping promenade and a large recreational lawn, designed for daily use and special events.
Additionally, the project received the Construction Managers Association of America’s 2024 North Texas Project Achievement Award for government projects valued under $50 million. This award recognizes excellence in construction and program management, underscoring the project's innovative approach and community impact.
City officials expressed optimism for further accolades, citing ongoing applications for additional awards. The collaborative effort involved multiple city departments, showcasing Garland's commitment to reinvesting in its community. The Downtown Square has quickly become a vibrant hub, attracting visitors and enhancing the local quality of life.
