During a recent government meeting, discussions centered around the Lockwood Apartments, a new senior housing development set to open next month in Ward 3. The project aims to provide affordable housing options for seniors, with 65 of its units designated as affordable for the next 99 years. Council member Rudina highlighted the significance of this development, noting that it will help residents transition from other facilities, such as the courthouse.
The meeting also addressed concerns regarding a senior resident experiencing disturbances from a noisy neighbor. The office manager indicated that there were limited options available to address the issue. Family members suggested that the individual may require assisted living, which poses financial challenges for many. In response, the council recommended local nonprofit organizations, including the Disability Network of Washtenaw, Monroe, and Linaway County, as well as Jewish Family Services and AgeWell Services, which offer respite and case management support.
Rudina emphasized the importance of the Lockwood Apartments in meeting the community's housing needs and expressed enthusiasm for the upcoming public ribbon-cutting ceremony, which will allow residents and stakeholders to engage with the new facility. The discussions reflect ongoing efforts to enhance affordable housing options and support services for seniors in the area.
