During a recent government meeting, community member Frank Schmeling raised significant concerns regarding a proposed multifamily apartment complex on Parker Road, specifically addressing traffic safety and accessibility issues.
Schmeling, a resident of Damsel Brook Street, highlighted the challenges posed by the current traffic conditions on Parker Road, which is a 50 miles per hour zone. He noted that the intersection near Essex Street is particularly problematic, as it requires drivers to navigate a blind spot created by the nearby railroad overpass. This situation is exacerbated by the potential addition of a five-story apartment complex, which he fears could increase traffic volume and lead to more accidents.
The resident emphasized the need for a comprehensive traffic study to assess the impact of the new development, particularly regarding the placement of entrances and exits for the complex. He expressed concern that without proper traffic signals or lights, the area could become even more hazardous for drivers, especially those making U-turns towards Josie Lane.
Schmeling's remarks underscore the community's apprehension about the implications of new developments on local infrastructure and safety. As discussions continue, the need for careful planning and consideration of traffic management strategies will be crucial in addressing these concerns.
