During a recent government meeting, significant achievements in education were highlighted, particularly the success of local students at the Educators Rising National Conference in Washington, D.C. Superintendent Roland and Dr. Tracy Burrell praised four students from the preeducator program who represented their schools and community with distinction.
Dr. Burrell shared that these students participated in various competitions aimed at developing future educators' skills. Among them, Taylor Young, a recent graduate of Airline High School, excelled in the education administration careers category, presenting innovative recruitment and retention initiatives from Bossier Parish. Young is set to continue her education at LSU, majoring in education.
Rowan MacEntee, an eighth-grade graduate from Elm Grove Middle School, showcased her talent in creating an interactive bulletin board, earning her a spot at the national level after winning first place at the state competition. Meanwhile, Cameron Grimsley, also an eighth grader, emerged as the national champion in public speaking. Grimsley, who qualified by placing third at the state level, delivered a passionate speech on the importance of educators, impressing judges with her confidence and eloquence.
The meeting also served as a reminder for community members to contribute to a school supply drive at Walmart on Airline Drive, aimed at supporting teachers as the new school year approaches. With the start of classes for grades 1-12 just a week away, and kindergarten and pre-K following shortly after, the call for donations underscores the community's commitment to education.
