In a recent government meeting, local officials celebrated the achievements of Louisiana's top archery students and teams, highlighting their impressive performances at state and national competitions.
Brylee Dobbins was recognized for her outstanding individual achievement, ranking 4th in the nation and being the only student from Louisiana to do so. The meeting also honored the Benton High School Tigers, who placed 5th in the state, and the Haughton High School team, which secured 2nd place. The Airline Vikings were crowned the Louisiana State Championship High School team, with Coach Valerie Kirchhoff leading them to victory.
Several individual archers were acknowledged for their accomplishments. Evan Moore from Airline High School emerged as the top 3D archer in the state, earning a $5,000 scholarship. Drake Fontenot from Haughton High School placed 2nd in the bull's eye competition and received a $375 scholarship. Sofia Tapia and Savannah O'Donohue also received accolades for their performances, with O'Donohue recently winning a silver medal at the Pan American Archery Games in El Salvador.
The meeting further highlighted the success of Bossier Schools at the 2024 Western Nationals in Salt Lake City, where Jack Wilbert from Airline High School ranked 5th in the high school division. Benton Middle School and Benton Intermediate School also excelled, with Benton Intermediate's team becoming world champions in the bull's eye competition at the NASP championship in Daytona Beach, Florida.
The event concluded with a round of applause for all the students and coaches, celebrating their hard work and dedication to the sport of archery.
