In a recent government meeting, officials provided updates on renewable energy projects and the ongoing all-source request for proposals (RFP) process aimed at meeting energy demands in Mohave County.
One notable project highlighted was the La Senita School solar initiative in Kingman, which occupies six acres and generates approximately one megawatt of electricity. This project, situated on school district land, is part of a collaborative effort to offer students a practical learning experience about electricity generation.
Additionally, the Greyhawk solar project, commissioned in 2018, was discussed. Located just north of Kingman, this larger project spans 800 acres and produces 46 megawatts of energy.
The meeting also addressed the all-source RFP process, a competitive bidding initiative designed to secure renewable energy sources and firm capacity to meet community needs. The current solicitation seeks 175 megawatts of renewable energy and 200 megawatts of firm capacity, which includes options like natural gas and battery storage. Officials anticipate that new projects will be operational by summer 2027.
This RFP process aligns with the integrated resource plan overseen by the Arizona Corporation Commission, ensuring that the energy strategies are in accordance with regulatory requirements. Currently, evaluations and discussions are underway with select private developers, although none of the proposed projects are located within Mohave County.
