The Carlsbad City Council convened on Tuesday evening, with four of the five council members present, to discuss various agenda items, including a significant proclamation recognizing June 2024 as LGBTQIA+ Pride Month.
Mayor Blackburn opened the meeting, noting the absence of Council member Luna, and proceeded with the roll call. Following the approval of minutes from previous meetings, Council member Teresa Acosta took the floor to present the Pride Month proclamation.
Acosta emphasized the importance of equality and the contributions of the LGBTQIA+ community to the city, stating that it is essential for all residents to feel valued and supported, regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity. The proclamation calls for the community to embrace diversity and foster a culture of inclusiveness and acceptance.
Max Disposti from the North County LGBTQ Resource Center was invited to the podium to share a few words following the reading of the proclamation. The council's unanimous support for this declaration highlights Carlsbad's commitment to promoting equality and celebrating diversity within the community.
