New Nexus Center set to transform community engagement

A new community hub is set to take shape in Flagler County with the upcoming construction of the Nexus Center, a one-story building spanning 23,000 square feet. Designed to serve multiple functions, the facility will feature a canopy for shade and protection from inclement weather at its entrance.

The Nexus Center will house the Health and Human Services (HHS) department, which will include a reception lobby, consultation rooms, restrooms, a storage closet, a workspace with four offices, a 25-person meeting room, and a staff kitchen. The main building will welcome visitors into a lobby that includes a micro market and public restrooms, leading to a state-of-the-art community center equipped with a catering kitchen capable of accommodating approximately 300 people. This versatile space can be divided for simultaneous events or opened fully for larger gatherings, with one side designated as the Flagler County Senior Center and congregate meal site during the week.

The library portion of the Nexus Center will feature a customer service desk, a passport office, and a drive-through window for after-hours returns. An innovation lab and podcasting room will provide opportunities for learning and creativity for all ages. The youth services department will include a children's area and a teen center, separated by a shared staff workroom and a program room with a 50-person capacity.

The center's design incorporates elements that reflect the natural beauty of Flagler County, with colors inspired by the local landscape. Plans for the future include an amphitheater that will enhance the outdoor experience.

During the meeting, County Commissioner Chair Andy Dance commended the efforts of Miss Albanese, who played a pivotal role in bringing the Nexus Center project to fruition. The community eagerly anticipates the opening of this multifaceted facility, which aims to serve as a vital resource for residents of Flagler County.
